About

Landing in Mumbai

Landing in Mumbai follows the daily antics of Mumbai Chopra, the sweet yet materialistic daughter of a spiritual guru who endures a video scandal and haphazardly tries to find enlightenment in her life.

Season One

Mumbai takes to the web to reclaim her image after her highly publicized video scandal in an attempt to show the world what she's really about. But she can't do it alone, thus dragging her tail, err... Sonal along for the ride. Mumbai is determined to win the hearts of her audience and refuses to exploit her troubles like her frenemies - Paris and Kim. In Mumbai's words, all she wants is "a book deal and probably a talk show". As such, Mumbai goes on a quest to take over the airwaves, and makes some new friends... and enemies along the way.

Season Two

Devastated at losing her talk show, Mumbai has lost her contagious zest for life. She decides to take a vacation to take her mind off her troubles. There she meets Leslie (publicist to the stars) who helps her realize the only way she can ever get her talk show back is if she becomes 'one with the people!'

  • Mumbai Chopra - Natasha Chandel

"Daddy says I'm breast. I mean blessed!" - Mumbai

The 22 year-old gorgeous socialite is the Indian mix of her favorite “"frenemies". Mumbai Chopra is Paris Hilton sassy, Kim Kardashian sexy, and "all woman". Simply put, men want her and women want to be her. As the epitome of ethnic OC, Mumbai is hot, rich, exotic and exudes class. Although seemingly shallow and materialistic, Mumbai is a genuinely innocent and good-hearted individual. Mumbai is a spiritual girl caught in a material world. As the daughter of a spiritual guru, she has an innate connectedness to a higher power and seeks out the deeper meaning in life...or maybe not. But, Mumbai is a favorite of the paparazzi, who recently uncovered a hidden home video of Mumbai that threatened to ruin her career. After enduring a grueling backlash from the media while fighting to reclaim her image, Mumbai realized there is more to life than meets the eye. Mumbai now swears to live by her father’s philosophies, although nothing in reality seems to show it! Mumbai has undeniable charm, beauty, and innocence that prove to be humorous and loveable.

Now "That's OM!" Yep, that's Mumbai's tag line!

  • Sonal Chopra - Aizzah Fatima

"You need to get with it, Sonal. I don't know how long I can carry you." - Mumbai

Mumbai's little sister, and the invisible thorn in her side; the 16 year-old Sonal never appears on camera (she is too shy) but Mumbai describes her as slightly “ratty”. Sonal is the anti-thesis of Mumbai; her complete opposite…in every way. Sonal is Mumbai's unconscious pillar - she points out Mumbai's flaws, faults, idiosyncrasies tries to steer her on the right path. You often wonder who is the older sister. Although, Mumbai and her share a healthy sibling rivalry, they love each other to death. Sonal is the only one who knows how to truly handle Mumbai, but even she can't talk the socialite out of all her zany ideas.

    Aizzah Fatima

The ever-young, high pitched voice of Sonal comes from Aizzah Fatima; a Technical Operations Specialist at Googe Inc. by day and a producer, writer, and actress by night. Aizzah is based in New York City but has won several awards for acting at state and regional competitions while growing up in Mississippi. A graduate of the conservatory program at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Aizzah has dabbled in print modeling and hosting, among other things.

Shortly after graduating from AADA, Aizzah appeared in several films and on TV for WEtv and The Food Network, and has performed in numerous plays throughout NYC. She recently found renewed success as the producer, writer and star of her one-woman stage show, Dirty Paki Lingerie which has held sold-out runs in New York and Toronto, Canada. Other shorts Aizzah have produced and starred in, include: Doff Thy Name, Do-Over, and Moving On.

  • Leslie Hanson - Rob Harmon

    "Leslie's a guy?" - Mumbai

Leslie is Mumbai’s androgenous publicist and the latest addition to her entourage. He appears, out of nowhere, and is hired to reignite and revamp Mumbai's career and image. Although seemingly helpful, there is something we don't know about Leslie besides the obvious overarching question - is Leslie a guy or a girl? Is Leslie into guys or girls?

    Rob Harmon

Detroit native Rob Harmon discovered his triple passions - music, acting and fashion at a young age. At 18, he won a scholarship to NYC’s Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (AMDA) and a year later made his television debut on the first all-gay reality show Gay Riviera. Rob found additional outlets as a model but found his niche as a successful hair and makeup artist in New York City, working with the likes of Ivanka Trump, Eva Longoria, The Pussycat Dolls, Coco Rocha, Maya, Mel B, Freida Pinto, Hugh Jackman, Carly Simon, Pamela Anderson, Lisa Lampanelli, Paz De La Huerta, Julia Jones, Uffie, Julissa Bermudez and the cast of All My Children. Rob latest performance endeavor sees him playing the challenging lead role of April/Cole, a transsexual woman who decides to return to her biological gender in the feature film Between Love & Goodbye. He recently won “Best Actor” in the Festival Del Sol, Grand Canaria, film festival. Rob continues to work as a makeup artist and in his free time writes music as a hobby in his living room.

  • Austin Wright - Luke Guldan

"He's got eyes that burn through your soul." - Mumbai

Mumbai's first on-screen love interest, Austin is freakishly handsome but is totally unaware of his own beauty. The simple, small town boy appears as Mumbai’s Prince Charming. He loves Mumbai for what she is on the inside, but is not a fan of the paparazzi attention or lack of privacy that comes with her territory.

    Luke Guldan

Luke Guldan might be one of New York's most eligible bachelors, but his alter - ego 'Austin' may have met his match in Mumbai! The Milwaukee born native first got the acting bug in the 4th Grade when he played a Nutcracker in his school's Christmas play – from then on there was no stopping him. The two time 'Mr. Fitness' found his way to New York, taking the modeling world by storm while sharpening his acting chops.

A big Tennessee Williams fan, Luke has appeared in "Vieux Carre" and "Streetcar" on the New York stage. "The Watermen", his first feature film lead, recently had its World Premier at the Toronto Independent Film Festival. Youngeraudiences know him as Iron Man’s personal trainer on NickToons. "Awesome!!".

  • MUMBAI TAKES OVER PARIS!

New Web Series Hits The Ground Running

NEW YORK (March 1, 2011) - November 28th, 2010 marked the debut of themuch anticipated comedy web series, Landing in Mumbai (www.mumbaichopra.com). Chronicling the antics of 22-year old Mumbai Chopra, the sweet yet materialistic daughter of a spiritual guru who endures a highly publicized video scandal and haphazardly tries to find enlightenment in her life.

With its first season's finale under their belt, the big buzz continues about this little series that breaks the mold of well-known Indian stereotypes. They are also official entries for The 2011 Webby Awards (Online Oscars) for Best Comedy Series, Best Episode, Best Music and Best Website Homepage.

Landing in Mumbai has received over 150,000 hits. Mumbai Chopra, a la Paris Hilton, is not a call center employee, she doesn't have an accent, and she is far from conservative. She is not a supporting character, or very brainy, and truthfully doesn't know that much about her culture. Mumbai is much more like Elle Woods (Legally Blonde) or her “frenemies” (former friends turned enemies) on the show – Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton. Mumbai is the queen socialite, and happens to be Indian. She has “assets” and has no problem using them. She is on a simple quest to change her self and this world…one antic at a time. The way Paris coined, “That's hot”, Mumbai has coined the very catchy "That's OM".

The show's creator and star, Natasha Chandel, was specific about how she wanted Mumbai branded, "I know what everyone thinks about Indians and Indian culture and I wanted to break that image. I wanted everyone to see how normal we are and have the potential to be. I call Landing in Mumbai the Fresh Prince (of Bel-Air) for a new generation. It's a mainstream comedy that happens to have a diverse cast. Mumbai is sexy, sassy, kind of an airhead but still genuine at heart; she's totally different from what people perceive "South Asian" to be. And I use the show to parody everything about my own culture, pop culture, celebrity, this obsession with socialites, the new age spiritual movement and everything in between!"

Landing in Mumbai is produced by Natasha Chandel and Web Solutions MD, which is spearheaded by CEO and Founder Neil A. Collins. Together they created an interactive site (www.mumbaichopra.com) to host the 2-5 minute episodes, where viewers would get a glimpse and have access to the unique world of a truly unique character. In a short time, the site has become so popular developers have had to expand its traffic limit on numerous occasions! Set in Mumbai's lavish bedroom, different elements of the site are animated, and a very sexy Mumbai moves at the click of your mouse. It also gives an insight into the character including her social networking, show information, a calendar of events and appearances, and even “spiritual” quotes by Mumbai, herself. Some highlights of the series include a Christmas special, a music video and a trip to India!

Renowned music producer, Rishi Rich, is providing music for the series. He is the brainchild behind Jay Sean, and hit maker for the likes of Britney Spears, Madonna, Ricky Martin and Craig David. Rishi Rich is currently working on hismove to the United States and has a line up of celebrity artists waiting for a chance to work with him. “Rishi Rich is not only a close friend but an absolute musical genius and it is my honor to have him on board for this project and have his support”, says Natasha Chandel.

  • Rishi Rich Drops Beats on 'Mumbai Chopra'

    Desi Hits

Working with the who's who of the music industry, Brit-Asian producer Rishi Rich maintains his reputation for being a key player on the Urban Desi scene. The producer's endorsements are well reputed and lately the buzz is that he is dropping some beats on a new Web series called Mumbai Chopra. The show is produced by Rishi's friend and actress Natasha Chandel, who also stars in it.

When asked what inspired him to get involved with this project, Rishi told DH!, "it started as a way to support my good friend Natasha Chandel who is the producer and stars as Mumbai Chopra. I watched it evolve over the months and believe in the project. Mumbai is bad (in a good way, of course!) Collaboratively we (Natasha and I) knew that the right music would heighten the experience for the audience. Some tracks are purely original like the "Aap Jaisa Koi" remix, but others are remixes of tracks from my other artists like Tasha Tah and Veronica."

The series revolves around a Paris Hilton like character named Mumbai Chopra. She is the daughter of a spiritual guru who deals with a highly publicized sex scandal that she is involved with and seeks enlightenment in her life.

Rishi describes the music as "sexy and fun and feminine and I created sounds and beats that reflected her personality. Natasha fell in love with "Aap Jaisa Koi" when I made her listen to it, and it was a no-brainer. The song is fun and flighty, just like Mumbai. I do add a bit of an Indian touch to everything to reflect her culture, as well." Check out the music and let us know if it's hot or not.
